Ife Alumni Condemns Killing, Demands Justice

The attention of the Global Executive Council (GEC), Great Ife Alumni Association has been drawn to the killing of Okoli Chizoputam, a final year student of the Department of Civil Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, by mob action of angry students over alleged theft of phone.

GEC condemns the dastardly act in its entirety. According to a release by the Global Publicity Secretary, Great Ife Alumni Association, Akeem Amodu, the Global Executive Council of the Association not only viewed the killing as unjust, extra-judicial and barbaric but also constitutes a violation of the fundamental rights of Okoli Chizoputam to fear hearing.

The Global President of the Alumni Association, Engr. Wale Olaleye FNSE, on behalf of the Association, has backed the call by the Management of the University for a thorough investigation of the unfortunate killing as a step towards identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of the mob killing.

Meanwhile, the Global Executive Council, on behalf of the entire members of the Association symphatize with the family and friends of Okoli Chizoputam on the irreparable loss. GEC also symphatize with staff and students of OAU on the unfortunate incidence and sue for peace. While demanding justice for Okoli, the Association called on the Management of the University to further strengthen the security network on campus as a step towards averting future occurrence of avoidable death or mob actions.
