Alumni President, OAU VC, Others Commend UK Chapter, Great Ife Alumni Association

The Vice Chancellor Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire has commended the United Kingdom (UK) Chapter of Great Ife Alumni Association on the successful election and swearing in of a new Executive Committee. The Vice Chancellor used the opportunity of the Swearing-in Ceremony to appreciate the Engr. Wale Olaleye led Global Executive Committee for the continued growth and impact of the Association. A former Vice Chancellor and renowned Professor of Yoruba Language and Literature, Prof. Wande Abimbola also graced the hybrid Swearing-in Ceremony with insightful comments on the development of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Great Ife Alumni Association (GIAA).

The outgoing Chairman UK Chapter GIAA, Great Tunde Ladipo expressed confidence in the ability of the new Executive Committee of the UK Chapter to take the Association to even greater heights. In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in Chairman of the UK Chapter, Great Kunle Adewole thanked the immediate past Chairman for laying a solid foundation for the new Executive Committee to build on. Other members of the Executive Committee include Great Kehinde Akinyele (Vice Chairman), Great J. Olubode (Financial Secretary) and Great O. A. Adedoyin (Treasurer). Chairman of the Electoral Committee Great Olamide Idowu, on behalf of other members - Great Susan J. Falana-Thomas and Great Kehinde Fagbaru - thanked members for the opportunity to serve.

The Global President Engr. Wale Olaleye FNSE used the occasion to thank the Prof. S. A. Bamire led Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, for supporting the course of the Association, as did his predecessors. While congratulating the newly sworn in Executive Committee of the Chapter, the Global President thanked GIAA branches in diaspora, and at home, as they continue to mobilize support for the development of their alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Ife Alumni Condemns Killing, Demands Justice

The attention of the Global Executive Council (GEC), Great Ife Alumni Association has been drawn to the killing of Okoli Chizoputam, a final year student of the Department of Civil Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, by mob action of angry students over alleged theft of phone. GEC condemns the dastardly act in its entirety. According to a release by the Global Publicity Secretary, Great Ife Alumni Association, Akeem Amodu, the Global Executive Council of the Association not only viewed the killing as unjust, extra-judicial and barbaric but also constitutes a violation of the fundamental rights of Okoli Chizoputam to fear hearing. Ife Law Alumnus Emerges 12th Unilorin VC

The Governing Council, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, recently announced Prof Wahab Egbewole SAN, an Alumnus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the University.
